Being practical about productivity

Posted on: February 22nd, 2016 by Jamie MacLean

This year, I will use my time wisely and work efficiently. It seems this is my resolution every new year, and I suspect the same goes for many others, too. Often, it’s so we can spend more time with family, recharge with alone time, or do more of what we enjoy most. But then, it seems like I’m adding three more tasks to my to-do list every time I cross one off. Is figuring out how to work smarter an…

The London Eye: My Perspective On Working Abroad

Posted on: March 25th, 2015 by Jamie MacLean

It’s been nearly three months since I arrived in London, England. When my husband came home last fall with the news of an opportunity to transfer abroad with his company for a year, it was a no-brainer. Though we love to travel, neither of us had been to Western Europe. We don’t have a mortgage or children to consider. And, most fortunately, I have the flexibility to work from anywhere—even across the pond. But it’s not all about the fun…

Last week, members of the Felicity team gathered for a learning session with Rachel Segal, Felicity’s resident digital strategy expert, who flew in from British Columbia to share her tips for using social media—particularly LinkedIn—as a business development tool. As Felicity continues to expand, we wanted to provide our team with practical training and tips for using LinkedIn as a marketing, networking, brand building, and growth tool—for ourselves and for our clients. The insights Rachel shared could—and should—be applied by…

An OVATION for Felicity!

Posted on: May 28th, 2014 by Jamie MacLean

On May 22, the Felicity team glammed up for a night out at the IABC 2014 OVATION Awards Gala, where we were presented with an Award of Merit for the successful Canadian launch of Renova toilet paper in 2013. With Tracy Moore from CityLine as host, the evening was full of mingling, music and delicious food. The team even walked on stage to the tune of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which was perfectly aligned with Renova’s “You’re Not In Kansas…

Felicity team members enhance their nutrition knowledge

Posted on: May 6th, 2014 by Jamie MacLean

Did you know… Not all whole grains are high in fibre? 18 to 30 year olds, particularly women, are snacking more? There’s a difference between “Product of Canada” and “Made in Canada”?   On April 29th, a few of us on the Felicity team attended Nutrition for NON-Nutritionists ™ — a full-day course hosted and facilitated by Felicity associate and registered dietitians Sue Mah along with her colleague Lucia Weiler in Toronto. The course was designed to help those…

Felicity’s First Coffee Talk

Posted on: March 28th, 2014 by Jamie MacLean

While most of our work at Felicity takes place over the internet or phone, it’s important for our “virtual” team to take the time to meet up in-person and hone our skills on a regular basis. Yesterday morning, the Felicity team met at de Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters for a casual “catch up” over coffee and treats. In addition to mixin’ and minglin’, Executive Coach Rachel Weinstein facilitated an interactive discussion under the theme, “Your Energy: Manage it Wisely.” Rachel…

The Community Manager Hat Never Comes Off: Discussing Challenges and Celebrating Wins

Posted on: March 12th, 2014 by Jamie MacLean

It is part of my morning routine now: brush my teeth, make a cup of coffee, and check Twitter. Check Facebook. Check LinkedIn. Has anyone tweeted us this morning? Commented on a post? What is everyone else talking about online today? When I first joined Facebook in 2005, I never imagined that I would one day be monitoring tweets, status updates and blogs as part of my career in PR. But it’s certainly an important one; where someone’s talking about…

Online Authenticity: Transparency Trumps All

Posted on: December 12th, 2013 by Jamie MacLean

Wikipedia’s recent cease-and-desist letter against a Texas public relations firm editing their clients’ entries is an excellent reminder for all marketers, communicators and PR professionals: online transparency has never been more important. Wikipedia is known for encouraging volunteers to collaboratively author and edit pages for accuracy. When it became clear that Wiki-PR was using false identities and user accounts to edit Wikipedia entries on behalf of clients, this understandably caused a tremendous amount of outrage within the tightknit Wikipedia community.…

Are you a communicator?

Posted on: March 3rd, 2013 by Jamie MacLean

Communications careers exist in every industry because all entities — corporations, non-profit organizations, associations, small businesses and even personalities — need to connect with their target audiences. This not only means communicating key messages effectively, but also listening to them to understand what they value. According to ServiceCanada, job prospects in public relations and communications roles are fair, though still competitive. The average annual growth rate of jobs in this profession is at 1.5% for the next couple of years.…
